William D. “Bill” Donlin, 94, of Athens Twp., PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at the Sayre Health Care Center.
He was born October 11, 1930, in Tunkhannock, PA, the son of the late George and Mary (Dix) Donlin.
Bill was a Veteran of the US Navy, serving during the Korean War. He was employed by the Ingersoll-Rand in Athens as a Machinist and the Lehigh Valley Railroad, prior to retiring.
He loved to fish and spend time at his cottage on the Susquehanna River with Joan. Bill enjoyed tending to his yard work. But when his health prevented him from continuing to do it, he would sit on his porch in his favorite chair, with his can of beer and watch as his neighbors mowed for him. Bill was quite the conversationist and was really sitting outside waiting with a can of soda for those working so they would take a break and spend time chatting with him. Bill never met a stranger because all quickly became his friend. He loved his pets over the years, but his ultimate favorite was his precious beagle, Emily.
He was a lifetime member of the Athens American Legion #246 and the Sayre VFW Post #1536.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife; Joan Donlin, son; Darryl Donlin, brother; James Donlin, and his sister; Rita Simpson.
William is survived by his sister and brother-in-law; Ann and Don Stubbs, son; Bruce Donlin, daughter; Mari Buckland, numerous nieces and nephews, his neighbor and caregiver for many years; Cindy Schrock, the mother of his sons and friend; Shirley, and his many friends who will miss his many stories.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 1pm at the Bradford County Memorial Park, 20452 Route 6, Towanda, PA with Rev. Linda Rogers officiating, abiding by Bill’s wishes.
Following the service, Bill will be laid next to his beloved wife, Joan.
