Shirley F. (Fenton) Rolls

It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother, and friend Shirley Fenton Rolls at the age of 91. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 6, 2024, with her 4 daughters by her side.

Shirley was born October 22, 1932 to William Fenton, Sr., and Mary Naomi May, who predecease her. She was a graduate of Athens High School, class of 1950. Shirley was a long-time member of the Sayre Christian Church, where her daughter, Paula Kraus is now the Pastor. Shirley was a devoted wife and mother. She married Paul E. Rolls and shared 61 years together before his passing on November 25, 2012.

Shirley worked at several places in the Valley and retired from Tioga Nursing Home and Tioga Health Related Facility after 25 years in the dietary department. She then continued as a Transport for Guthrie/Tioga and eventually Elderwood at Waverly until her health declined.

Shirley enjoyed camping, working outdoors (she always had a weed-eater or rake in her hands), and doing crafts with her husband. She was an excellent seamstress, making bridesmaid’s dresses for her daughters’ weddings, hosting holiday dinners and picnics with her family whom she adored, and Shirley loved to bake pies (you could always grab a pie or piece of pie at Shirley’s.)

Shirley is survived by her children Kathi Hunsinger of Litchfield, Paula (Joe) Kraus of Sayre, Terry (Johnny) Hunsinger of Milan, and Kelly (Ed) Seeley of Waverly, NY; grandchildren Cricket Merrill, Kevin (Michelle) Merrill, Kyle (Nicole) Cole, Dave (Amy) Hunsinger, Tawnya (Roy) Riley, David Kraus, Chris (Heather) Hunsinger, Jason (Lori) Hunsinger and Chris (Candis) Seeley; great grandchildren Logan Merrill, Cassie and Kendra Merrill, Kyla Jane Cole, Alex and Ayden Hunsinger, Megan Dowell, Krystal Montgomery, Natasha Root, Mason Broyles, Adam (Taylore) Hunsinger, Brandon and Caleb Hunsinger, Josh (Kiliegh) Hunsinger, Courtney Hunsinger, Christopher, Harper and Scarlett Seeley and Jaggar Gelber. She is also survived by several great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to her long-time family at Elderwood Memory Care Unit and those on the Third Floor.

In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was predeceased by her sister, Lulu Fenton Ervine, her brother William Fenton, Jr., and sons-in-laws Keary B. Cole, Thomas R. Evans, and David E. Hunsinger, Sr.

A Time of Visitation will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 11:00am – 12:00pm at the Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA.  Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 12:00pm.

Burial will be in Orange Hill Cemetery where Shirley will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband.
