Sheldon Millard – Former Athens Businessman
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sheldon Millard of Plant City, FL, formerly of Athens, PA who passed away on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024 in Tampa, FL.
He was born April 20, 1925 to Blake and Elizabeth (Jay) Millard in Spring Hill, PA.
Sheldon was a Veteran of the US Army serving during WWII, where he was stationed in the Philippines as an ambulance driver. Sheldon was not only a farmer but worked at American LaFrance, Elmira, NY.
Most will remember Sheldon and his wife Leah as the owners of Millard’s Dairy Bar in Greene’s Landing, where the lines were long but patient as they served their delicious ice cream treats. He also was known for his love for fixing lawn mowers and as the man who could repair just about anything.
In retirement, Sheldon and Leah were snowbirds and then permanently became residents of Strawberry Square in Plant City, FL. After moving to Florida, enjoyed spending much of their time going square dancing.
Sheldon was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Leah (Wilsey); sister, Carole Soper; children Sheldon Jr, Dorothy Jean Swanson (Dail), Randy, Debra (Barnes), Scott (Denise), and Lisa. He had 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He will also be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 beginning at 1:00pm at the Sayre VFW Post #1536, 932 West Lockhart Street, Sayre, PA.
Military Honors will be accorded promptly at 1:00pm prior to the gathering at the VFW by the Army Honor Guard and Valley Color Guard.
