Sarah White Obituary

Sarah L. (Rogers) White, 96, of Athens, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, April 17, 2026 at Robert Packer Hospital.

One of 7 children, she was born on June 5, 1929 at home in Athens, PA, the daughter of the late Stanley and Edna (Hunsinger) Rogers.

Sarah attended Athens Area Schools, graduating as a proud “Bulldog” Class of 1947. During her school years, she never missed a day of school except one, the day she went hunting. She was employed with Sayre Lingerie and the Lynch Bustin School in Athens. Sarah and her husband, Joe, owned and operated White’s Arco Station on the corner of Pine St. and Main St. for many years and she was the Bookkeeper. She was a member of the First Church of God, Sayre.

Of all that Sarah did in her life, her family and home were her top priority. If you sat with her any amount of time, you were bound to hear about past times with her children and family members. As the grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along, they took priority. Her main goal was to cater to them, no matter if it meant rides, cooking something special for them, or if they needed or wanted anything she was there. The love they shared between them is a bond that will never be broken.

She enjoyed sitting on her back porch feeding and watching the birds and squirrels play. Sarah loved being outside, tending to her flower beds and garden. Her home was decorated for every holiday on the calendar. No matter how she was feeling, it was going to get done. She enjoyed puzzles and liked attending high school sporting events.

Sarah was sharp as a tack and nothing could get past her. If you needed any knowledge or learn about some person in the Valley, she could give you the whole family history. One of the friendliest people you would ever want to meet, people loved and adored her. Her thoughts were always of others and worrying about them, never of herself.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her beloved husband; Joe White in 2002, and in her infinite strength she buried 3 of her children; Joseph White, Joann White, and Stanley White, and her daughter-in-law whom she loved as a daughter; Penny White. 5 of her siblings predeceased her; Stanley Rogers, Gilbert Rogers, Kenneth Rogers, Ralph Rogers, and Marleah Petty and her brother-in-law; Louie Young.

Sarah leaves behind her son Ric “Slip” White of Athens, PA, and Barbara “Bip” White of Sayre, PA, “those who called her gram”; Michelle “Mick” (Jake) Lantz, Danelle (Neil) Wheaton, Jacob White and his partner Billee, Ashley White and her husband Scott Combs, Cody White and his partner Sara, and Brett White, her great-grandchildren, whom she adored; Hannah Parshall and her partner James, Joseph Parshall and his fiancé Abby, Lou Combs, Zach Lantz, Chandler Combs, and Archer White. She is also survived by her sister; Geraldine “Pearl” Young, several nieces, nephews, cousins, sister-in-law; Virginia Rogers, and many wonderful neighbors and special friends.
