Ruth W. (Wright) Murphy

Ruth W. Murphy, 93, of Athens, PA, passed away at her home on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

She was born August 20, 1931 in Sayre, PA, the daughter of the late Edward, Sr. and Lucy (Kellogg) Wright.

Ruth started her career with Marine Midland Bank, before she began working beside her husband on their Dairy Farm. She finished her career at Athens Area School District as a Secretary, retiring after several years of service. Ruth enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. She also enjoyed playing guitar. Ruth volunteered for many years as an Election Poll Worker.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, John P. Murphy, sister, Gladys Wright, Edward Wright, Jr., sisters-in-law, Grace Wright, Mabel Murphy, and Jean Murphy, and brothers-in-law, Maurice Murphy, Paul Murphy, and Paul Hurley.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Christine Vough, son, Mike Murphy, grandson, Jon Vough, grandson and his wife, Ben and Elania Vough, sister, Geraldine Hurley, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Robert and Barb Murphy, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends and family may call on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 from 12:00pm-2:00pm at the Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., at 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 9:30am at the Church of the Epiphany, 304 South Elmer Avenue, Sayre, PA.

Burial will follow the Mass at Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
