Richard C. (Rich) Wolcott, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at the age of 75 on Monday, June 24, at his home in Athens, PA following a period of declining health. Richard was born January 1, 1949, in Sayre, PA, to Richard E. and Alice Wolcott who predeceased him.
Richard graduated from Sayre High School in 1967 and joined the US Navy during the time of the Vietnam War. He saw many parts of the world during his time served on the U.S.S. Chandler. Upon returning home, he worked on the railroad until 1978 when he began working at the hospital in the environmental services department until his retirement. Richard was also a tax preparer for H.R. Block for many years in the Southside office.
He was a kind man with a big heart who would do anything for anyone. This is exemplified through his served in the J.E. Wheelock Hose Company where he is a life member as well as time spent with the Sayre American Legion Post #283 where he was a Past Commander serving in that role in 1984 and is also a life member. He was also a life member at the Sayre VFW Post #1536, the Disabled American Veterans and the Catholic War Vets.
Richard was a lifelong New York Yankees and New York Giants fan and attended many games to cheer on his teams.
Richard leaves behind his three daughters Jennifer (James) Chrysler, Jr. of Spencer, NY, Deborah (Chris Wandell) Wolcott of Sayre, PA, and Stephanie (James) Callahan of Waverly, NY. He is also survived by his three grandchildren; Alexa (Eddie Dailey) Blackman of Philadelphia, PA, James Chrysler III of Spencer, NY, and Kylie Chrysler of Spencer, NY. His longtime companion Carol survives him as well. He is also survived his brother Howard of Sayre and numerous cousins and friends. Rich loved animals and left behind Sonny and Cher who were by his side always.
A Time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 11am-12pm at the Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the funeral home at 12pm with Chaplain Linda Rogers officiating.
Burial will follow at Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA with Military Honors accorded.
