Raymond D. “Ray” Salsman, 83, of Waverly, NY, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2026 at Robert Packer Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born March 22, 1943, the son of the late Clifford Salsman and Maxine Arasz.
Ray was a graduate of Wyalusing Valley High School. He served in the US Army, serving during Vietnam. He was an employee of Elderwood in the Environmental Services, retiring after 25 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Waverly American Legion Post #492/VFW Post #8104. A huge part of his life was participating in the Valley Color Guard, especially serving as a part of “The Black Sheep Squadron.”
Ray will be remembered most for being a loving husband, father, and papa. He enjoyed hunting with his son and grandson. Ray was also a loyal friend that you could always count on, and his kindness will always be remembered by his many friends.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his great-granddaughter, Sawyer Mae, step-father, George Arasz, step-brother, Daniel Belles, and step-sister, Jill Lantz.
Raymond is survived by his beloved wife 60 years, Carolyn Salsman, son and daughter-in-law, Raymond E. and Tina Jo Salsman, grandchildren Rebeca (Keegan) Satterly, Mason (Tara Agnew) Salsman, Morgan (Richard) Lynch, and Toni Salsman, great-grandchildren, Miles Satterly, Claire Lynch, Trent Lynch, Aisha Winiavski, Kayleigh Winiavski, and Arik Winiavski. He is also survived by his sister, Sheila Salsman, step-brothers, John, Jack, and Jeff Belles, step-sisters, Lorraine Hatch and Maria Bennett, uncle, Carl Salsman, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.
A Time of Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 5:00pm-6:00pm at the Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 S. Main St., Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at 6:00pm at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Bradford County Memorial Park, Towanda, PA, on Friday, June 5, 2026 at 11:00am with Military Honors accorded.
