Obituary

Raymond Heaton Atkinson, 76, of Columbia Crossroads, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at Robert Packer Hospital.

He was born on November 25, 1946 in York, England, the son of the late James and Nora Atkinson.

Upon completing college, Ray first served as a math teacher in the English equivalent of the American Peace Corps in British Guiana.  Once employed by the English Electric Company as an electrical engineer, he worked in other countries around the world.  He then relocated to the US in 1976 and was very proud to be the lead electrical engineer for English Electric’s FL-9 locomotive on the Metro North and Hudson Lines in New York and Connecticut.  Ray was an avid train, airplane and space enthusiast.  He enjoyed traveling, building model trains, crossword puzzles, and planted over ten thousand tree seedlings on his Columbia Crossroads property!

Ray is predeceased by his parents and brother George Atkinson.

He is survived by his friends, in particular the Duda family.

Those wishing may make donations in Raymond’s memory to the Arbor Day Foundation at www.arborday.org
