Philip Simonis, of Athens, age 62, went to be with the Lord on November 23, 2023. Philip was born on July 26, 1961 in Morristown, NJ the 10th of 11 children of the late Richard and Henrietta (Cook) Simonis. In 1975 he moved with his parents to Litchfield, PA and has been a resident of the valley ever since. Philip was a special needs child who excelled in living and loving life and would always greet you with a smile. He graduated from Athens High School, served as an altar boy at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and then at the Church of the Epiphany. As his health declined, he was still able to give and get joy with his caregivers at Futures.
Philip is predeceased in death by his parents, Richard and Henrietta (Cook) Simonis; brother Bartholomew; and nephew Jacob Simonis.
He is survived by his sisters, Rosemarie (John) Lake-Thompson, Patricia (Jerry) Brown, Jacqueline Simonis, and Anne (Lee) Hartjen; brothers, Peter (Chai) Simonis, Paul (Gail) Simonis, Michael (Linda) Simonis, Gerard (Pearl) Simonis, and Andrew (Cheryl) Simonis; he is also survived by 29 nieces and nephews as well as many great nieces and great nephews.
Family and friends may call on Monday, November 27, 2023 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 S. Main Street, Athens. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Church of the Epiphany, 304 S. Elmer Avenue, Sayre.
