Michael "Big Mike" E. Merrick

Michael E. “Big Mike” Merrick, 59, of Waverly, NY, passed away on Sunday. April 6, 2025 at the Robert Packer Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on March 15, 1966 in Elmira, NY, the son of Richard Merrick and Linda Casselbury.

Mike was a member the Lockwood Fire Department and former member of the VanEtten Fire Department.  He was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed collecting Tonka trucks and loved going to flea markets.

He is predeceased by his son, Levi Merrick; brother, Robby Casselbury; step-mother, Caroline Merrick; and step-father, Raymond Casselbury.

Mike is survived by his wife of 34 years, Tammy L. VanNess Merrick; sons, Riley (Tori) Merrick and Cody (Katelyn) Merrick; daughter-in-law, Amber Merrick;  grandchildren, Mason, Kylie, Emily, Hunter, Rori, Percy, Westin, Dante and Layton; brother, Ed Merrick; sister, Lisa Burleigh; step-brother, Rich (Barb) Merrick; step-sister, Denise Merrick; also survived by his good friends, Jim and Linda; father and mother-in-law, Gerald and Joyce Crainey; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at a future date at the convenience of the family.

The family is being care for by Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc.  Athens, PA.
