Michael A. Evans

Michael A. Evans, 63, of Athens, PA, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

He was born on November 13, 1961, in Sayre, PA, the son of the late Bernard and Emma Jean (Vanderpool) Evans.

Michael worked in the Maintenance Department at Guthrie Towanda. He loved his family, and spending time with them at their many family gatherings, and dinners. He loved spending time outside and being on his deck at home with his family and friends, whom affectionately called him “Buford.” Michael was an avid hunter and pro-horseshoe player. He also enjoyed canoeing, 4-wheeling, and camping. They will all miss the good times, and all the many camping parties that he was well-known for but perhaps most they will miss not hearing his favorite saying, “I’ll be your Huckleberry from Tombstone.”

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother-in-law; Ronnie Ennis.

Michael is survived by his sons; Kevin VanHorn, Scott Evans, and Gregg Evans, his grandchildren; Brooke Evans and Colsen Hiley-VanHorn, sister; Debra Ennis, brother; Jamey “Jim” Evans, sister and brother-in-law; Bonnie and Brian Wood, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends and family may call on Monday, June 30, 2025 from 11am – 1pm at the Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Celebration of Life Services will follow at the funeral home at 1pm.

Burial will be private for the family.
