Maurice E. Murphy

Maurice E. Murphy, 89, of Athens Twp., PA passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023, at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, following a brief illness.

He was born on March 16, 1934, in Sayre, PA, the son of the late John J. and Mary Savola McCue Murphy.

Maurice was a Veteran of the US Army. He was employed with the Ingersoll Rand as a Machinist, was an Athens Township Police Officer, and worked at the Public Works Department, prior to retiring. He enjoyed piloting his Cessna airplane and helping maintain the Towanda airport.

In addition to his parents, Maurice is predeceased by his wife Mable Madigan Murphy, and brother John P. Murphy and brother and sister-in-law Paul J. and Jeanne E. Murphy.

Maurice is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Robert T. and Barb Murphy, sister-in-law Ruth W. Murphy, nieces and nephews Mary (Mark) LaFond, Timothy (Rebecca) Murphy, Christine A. Vough (former husband David), Daniel (Jodi) Murphy, Michael Murphy, and Joseph (Kat) Murphy, great-nieces, great-nephews, and his late wife Mable’s family.

A Time of Visitation will be held for friends and family on Friday, October 6, 2023 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 10:00am at the Church of the Epiphany, 304 South Elmer Avenue, Sayre, PA with Fr. Daniel Toomey officiating.

Burial will follow the Mass at Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
