Mary Jane (Bates) Thomas

Mary Jane Bates Thomas, 87, of Athens, PA passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Sayre Health Care Center following an extended illness in Sayre, PA.

She was born September 21, 1936, in Williamsport, PA the daughter of the late Boyd W. Bates, Sr. and Golden L. (Updegraff) Bates. 

Mary loved going to the casino for many years.  She enjoyed reading and doing word puzzles and loved all animals.

She is predeceased by her husband, C. David Thomas; son, William Artley, Jr.; brothers, Willard Bates, Charles Bates, Lewis Bates and Boyd Bates, Jr.

Mary is survived by her children Janet (Gary) Wells and Christy (Ronnie) Mays, 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends and family may call Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 S. Main Street, Athens, PA.  A Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Cindy Schulte from the Waverly Community Methodist Church officiating. 

Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. with her husband C. David Thomas.
