Lawrence "Larry" Keener Obituary

Lawrence “Larry” J. Keener, 78, of Milan, PA, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Robert Packer Hospital following an extended illness.

He was born on October 10, 1945, in Sayre, PA, the son of the late Lawrence E. and Marjorie (Brown) Keener.

Larry loved bicycle riding and rode over 30 miles a day, and along the way stopped at every sale he could find. The unique thing about his bicycle riding was that he stopped at every garage sale and flea market that he came upon and he would end up coming home with all of his treasures he had discovered attached to his bike. Larry enjoyed hiking and golfing. He loved his cats, each and every one was special to him. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR.

He is predeceased by his granddaughter Rose Walters and sister-in-law Sandy Keener.

Lawrence is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Margaret at home, son and daughter-in-law Lawrence Jr. and Laurie Keener of Sayre, PA, daughter and son-in-law Kathleen and Jason Walters of Stevensville, PA, grandchildren Caroline (John Brown) Keener, Gabrielle (Michael) Palmer, Kenneth Keener, Sebastian Walters, and Liam Walters, great-grandson Vincent Palmer, brother Jerry Keener, and sister Dianne Klosner.

A Time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 11:00am - 12:00pm at Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 12:00pm with Pastor Richard Vieldhouse of Herrickville Wesleyan Church officiating.

Burial will follow at Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.

Memorial donations may be made in Lawrence Keener’s name to the Guthrie Cancer Care Fund, One Guthrie Square, 5th Floor Oncology Dept., Sayre, PA 18840. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Larry’s wonderful dialysis team, who kept his spirits up and each time would say, Hi, Hot Dog, we are ready for you. We will always be grateful for the personal touches given to Larry and us.
