June Lane Sargeant, 88 of East Smithfield passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2026. June was born on July 4th, 1937. The daughter of the late LeRoy Adelbert (Del) Smith and Mary Etta (Hicks) Smith. Predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Donald Lane, and brother, Lester Sydney Smith.
June was a graduate of S.R.U. High School, she was in the orchestra, class play, girls’ basketball team, a cheerleader, and the valedictorian of her class. Upon graduation she immediately went to work for the Farmers National Bank of East Smithfield as a bank teller. Subsequently, June worked for the Ingersoll-Rand in Athens PA and then for Claverack REC in Wysox, PA as an accountant. Additionally, June was an Avon Sales Representative and a member of the S.R.U. School Board.
June’s hobbies included singing, playing the piano and accordion, bowling, cooking and baking, reading the Bible, square dancing, and going to the many athletic events that her husband, children, and grandchildren participated in. June was especially close to her father, Adelbert Smith, she would sing and play her accordion while he sang and played his harmonica.
The love of music lead June to play the accordion in a band, as well as playing for the Federated Church of East Smithfield and the Mount Pisgah Wesleyan Church. She was a founding member of the Mount Pisgah Wesleyan Church where she served as treasurer for many years.
June is survived by her husband of 11 years, Paul Sargeant; children Valorie Mulcahy of Towanda, Martin Lane and wife Diane of Sayre, Audrey Hamlin and husband Steven of Apalachin, NY, and Daniel Lane and wife Margret of Milan; grandchildren, Sean, Ryan, Megan, Hilary, Emily, Taylor, Jordan, Austin, Ethan, Aaron; ten great grandchildren, stepdaughters Caroline, Heather, and Brenda and their families; brother Roy, and his wife Barb Smith; and cousin Mary Anne. June’s special friends Janice Wright, Jenny Teeter, Anne Harkness, and Betsy Fields.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at the Sayre Healthcare Center for the love, care, and support shown to June and Paul throughout their time there.
A visitation is to be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 11:00 to 1:00 with a funeral service following at 1:00 at the Mount Pisgah Wesleyan Church, located at 6346 Berwick Turnpike, Columbia Cross Roads, PA, 16914. Burial will follow at the Bradford County Memorial Park.
