Jean S. (Smith) Boor

JEAN S. BOOR Age 94 of Horseheads, NY passed away peacefully, at home, on Thursday, July 25, 2024.

Jean was born February 8, 1930 in Potsdam, NY, the daughter of the late DeAlton and Louisa Bolster Smith.

Jean was Valedictorian of her class at Manlius High School and earned a NYS Registered Professional Nurse License in 1952 after graduating from the Robert Packer Nurse Training Class of 1951 and an AAS in Dental Hygiene in 1953 from Long Island Ag & Tech (Farmingdale). She participated in the International Farm Youth Exchange Program (IFYE), which sent her to Israel in 1952. It was through her participation in IFYE that she met John, her husband of 62 years. Along with John and her son David, Jean co-owned and operated BoorCrest Farm in Horseheads, NY.

In addition to her husband, Jean was pre-deceased by her brothers David and Schuyler, and in-laws, John and Anna Boor, David Ginsberg, Henry Elion, and Harold Hooker.

Jean is survived by son and daughters: David Boor (Ellen McHugh); Kathryn Boor; Anne Farella (Anthony); grandchildren: Michael (Tatiana, great-grandchild Alexander), Patrick (Colleen), Ian, Paul, Philip, Joel and Lauren; brother, sister and in-laws: Lois Smith, Phillip (Lois) Smith, Carol Smith, Patricia Hooker, Anna Elion, Emily Ginsberg, and Nancy (Peter) Barth; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. The family would like to thank Patricia Webert, Cathy Plate, the Visiting Angels and CareFirst for the excellent care and compassion given to Jean and the entire family during her final year. Jean's beautiful smile and contagiously positive attitude will be missed by all. Jean donated her body to the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine to support training of the next generation of medical professionals.
