James E. “Stretch” Sluyter, 67, of Towanda, PA, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026.
He was born on December 29, 1958, the son of William M. and Laura W. (Sites) Sluyter.
James loved working with his hands and was very talented at wood-working. He was a member of the Towanda VFW Post 1568. He was an avid NASCAR fan, following his favorites, Joe Gibbs Racing, Drivers Denny Hamlin, and Darrell Waltrip. James enjoyed fishing, playing pool, and playing cards. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers Fan.
He is predeceased by his father, William M. Sluyter, brother, Robert Sluyter, sisters, Rosemary Cendor and Nancy Hofferman, and son-in-law, Curtis Ammerman.
James is survived by mother, Laura Bullock, son, Shon Michael Sluyter and his wife Corrina Kinner Sluyter, daughter, Jennifer Kitchin-Ammerman, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law, Julia and Judd Johnson, sister-in-law, Kathy Sluyter, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA.
Memorial donations may be made in Jim’s name to Towanda VFW Post 1568, 3271 Bridge Street Hill, Towanda, PA 18848.
