Harold "Ike" E. Weller, Jr.

Harold E. “Ike” Weller, Jr. originally from Athens, PA passed away in Miami, FL on Tuesday January 9, 2024.

Mr. Weller was born on April 8, 1925 in Athens, PA and was the oldest of three children.  He graduated from High School in Athens where he was the Drum Major.  He continued his education, graduating from Penn State where he was a manager for the gymnastics team and remained a devoted fan for life.  We Are!!  He was also an alumnus of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. 

Mr. Weller was an accountant and owned his own accounting firm. In addition, he served as the Athens Tax Collector from 1950 until 1998. He was elected to that position every 4 years and upon his retirement in 1998 the town of Athens declared July 31st, 1998, Ike Weller Day.  He became a full-time Florida resident in 1999 after 75 years in Athens.

Mr. Weller was a member of several civic and social organizations. He was an entrepreneur and extraordinary man who always had a love of learning and could accomplish anything he put his mind to!

He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Barbara (Bolton) Weller; parents, Harold E. Weller, Sr. and Hazel (Page) Weller; sisters Lois Jones and Pattricia Gurney.

Mr. Weller is survived by his children, Ward (Jeanette), Ann and Mack; grandchildren Wendi Hunter (Ben) and William (Yann), and great-grandchildren Isabelle and Penelope.

A service will be held at the Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens on Saturday, June 8th at 11:00 am, followed by a burial ceremony at Tioga Point Cemetery. The family will be hosting an informal Celebration of Life at 1:00 pm at the Elks Club, 117 S. Elmer Ave., Sayre and welcome family and friends to join us in celebrating the life of Ike Weller.
