Guy Kongabel Obituary

Guy Alexander Kongabel, 68, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, his Zion family, and under the care of CareFirst Hospice.

Guy was born on January 16, 1956, in Chicago, IL, younger brother to his twin, and best friend, Gregory. He is the beloved son to the late Virginia Parker Bradt and Gerald Kongabel.

Guy served his country in the US Air Force from 1976 until his honorable discharge in 1980 and the Army National Guard from 1987 to 1989.

Guy had several jobs in various professions but found his calling as the Facility Manager at Zion Fellowship International, Waverly, NY, where he worked and lived for the past 23 years.

Guy earned his General Education associate degree from Lansing Community college, attended Central Michigan University, a Ministerial Training Diploma from Zion Ministerial Institute, and a Bachelor of Theology from Zion University.

Guy will be remembered for his love for the Lord, his love for his family, and his love for his friends. He spent many years ministering to inmates at both the Macomb County, MI Jail and in the Prison Ministry in Elmira, New York. Guy also taught Sunday school for teens at Mount Zion Church for many years. He was humble and content, yet generous beyond measure. He was a diligent worker and took great pride in his job. He loved to dine out, and immensely enjoyed leaving exorbitant tips….in fact he was known to make a game of challenging others to match or beat his tips. It gave him great pleasure to bless others. He loved to spend time with family and friends, as those relationships were so important to him.

Guy is survived by his brother Gregory (Cindy) Kongabel, of Marine City, MI, sister Debbie Mansfield of Greensboro, NC, sister Julie Armstrong of Marysville, MI, sister Cindy (Ryan) Smith of Marquette, MI, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia Parker Bradt, and Gerald Kongabel.
