Geraldine W. (Wright) Hurley

Geraldine W. Hurley, 95, of Athens Twp., PA,  passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, February 20, 2026.

She was born on July 10, 1930 on the family farm in Athens Twp., the daughter of the late Edward and Lucy (Kellogg) Wright.

Geraldine entered first grade in a one-room school house in Athens Twp. with one classmate. Upon graduating from Athens High School, she worked for Kasco Mills in Waverly, NY as a Receptionist and Switchboard Operator for two years. Following that, she was employed for 8 years with the Farmers National Bank in Athens and also as a part-time Stenographer for Atty. Bill Willson.

In the meantime, she married Paul Hurley for a total of 67 years. In 1984, Paul and Geraldine opened Hurleys Home and Garden in Athens Twp., operating the business until 2008. Geraldine was elected as an Auditor for Athens Twp. She also worked as a Teacher Aide for Athens Schools. In January 1973, she was hired as the first full-time Secretary-Treasurer for Athens Twp., retiring after 16 years. She also served as Den Mother for  Cub Scout, Pack 9 for several years.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Paul Hurley, brother, Edward Wright, Jr. and sisters, Gladys Wright and Ruth Murphy.

Geraldine is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Mary Hurley of Athens Twp., PA, son, Daniel Hurley of Elmira, NY, grandchildren, Sharon (Kyle) Roberts, Meghan Hurley, Jessica (Chris) DeCamillo, Justine (Mike) Lisella, and Emily (Ivan Pikula) Lisella, great-grandchildren, Logan Roberts, Cora Roberts, Ella DeCamillo, Maya DeCamillo and Kade Chandler. Geraldine is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Following Geraldine’s wishes all services will be private for family. The family is being cared for by Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA.
