Gerald "Ged" Twigg Obituary

Gerald W. “Ged” “Judd” Twigg, 86, of Litchfield Twp., passed away with his family by his side on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at the Sayre Healthcare Center.

He was born on June 12, 1938, in Litchfield Twp., PA, the son of the late John and Bessie (Tobbe) Twigg.

Ged was a well-known 3rd generation Dairy and Beef Farmer in the Litchfield area. He married the love of his life on May 17, 1957, Lucille Gardner and recently they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Ged loved his life on the farm, working alongside his family. Along with working the farm, he loved teaching his kids and grandkids to tend to and ride the horses. He was an avid hunter; alongside many who came to the farm during hunting season. Ged was a former ASCS board member.

Ged was a graduate of the Athens Area High School. He played football during his school years, and in his senior year, he was the halfback, middle linebacker, and co-captain of the Athens squad. During his senior year, he received the first Ingersoll-Rand Supervisors Club Trophy for Gridiron Sportsmanship. His coach John Childs, presented Ged’s name as he stated, “Ged could play any position on the first string, he is one of the roughest and toughest players I ever coached, but he always plays clean ball.” Every school in the area was eligible for this award and Coach Childs and the whole team was so proud that one of their players brought it home. During these 4 years of football, Ged played with what most would say was a handicap, as he had injured his one hand in a buzz saw accident on the farm during his freshman year, and yet that did not deter him in being a large part of the sports he loved. He was named to the All-Valley second team and an honorable mention player. During his last 4 years, he was on the Athens Track Team as a sprinter and member of the half-mile relay team which went to the state finals at Penn State. Farm work was a big portion of his life but somehow, he still found time to during his school years to be the President of the Pigskin Chaser, Athens Letterman Club, and was part of the Athens Future Farmers of America, and a member of the Wrestling Club.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister; Lois Silkman and brother; Robert “Bob” Twigg.

Gerald is survived by his beloved wife; Lucille Gardner Twigg, son; Kevin Twigg, sons and daughters-in-law; Brian and Chris Twigg and Jon and Mary Twigg, grandchildren; Tyrel, Travis, and Trey Twigg, Brian, Stacey, and Kurt Twigg, and Jacob Twigg, great-grandchildren; Hunter, Logan, and Ronan Twigg, sisters; Janice Munn and Carol Babcock, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
