George J. Norton, Jr., 66, of Athens, PA, passed away at home with his family by his side on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 with his family and friends by his side after his long courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on November 26, 1959, in Sayre, PA, the son of the late George J. Sr., and Imogene (Vaughan) Norton.
George was an Athens High School graduate, Class of 1979. He was a proud Veteran of the US Marines, serving for 6 years. He loved spending time: gardening, fishing, hunting, grilling, camping and making things out of nothing. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He loved Penn State College football.
George also had a special bond with the people he worked with at CVS Warehouse where he was employed for nearly 14 years, but was forced to retire in April of 2025 due to his progressive illness.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Betty J. (Vargson) Norton, sons, Thomas B. Teeter and fiancé Chelsey Hulbert and Scott Teeter, grandchildren, Scott D. Teeter, Jr., Layla Hulbert, and Noah Hulbert-Teeter, brothers and sisters-in-law, Brian and Dawn Norton and Henry and Donna Norton, sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and James Canning, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret and James Johnson, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Almeda Vargson, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
George’s family would like to thank Guthrie Hospice and Pastor Leroy Woodruff for the excellent care provided to their loved one.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026 at 2PM at Bradford County Memorial Park, 20452 Rt. 6, Towanda, PA. Military Honors will be accorded. Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA is assisting the family.
