Daniel H. Sloat, 75, of Sayre, PA, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025 at Robert Packer Hospital following his courageous battle with cancer.
He was born October 5, 1949 in Sayre, PA, the son of the late Sanford and Marion (McCutcheon) Sloat.
Daniel was a 1967 graduate of Sayre High School. Following high school, he began his life-long career with the railroad, following in his father’s, brothers, and grandfather’s career path. He was employed with Lehigh Valley Railroad, Conrail, and Norfolk Southern, retiring after 40 years of dedicated service.
He enjoyed photography, especially anything to do with his family, his co-workers, and the railroad. Daniel was well-known for his kindness and patience. He also loved history, and spent many hours researching his ancestry and family lineage.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law; Sanford (Sam) and Patricia Sloat; his brother-in-law; Ralph Williams, sisters-in-law; Dixie Coolbaugh, Barbara Denlinger, Connie Selman, and Abbie Palumbo; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Richard and Neva (Leonard) Lantz.
Daniel is survived his beloved wife of 57 years; Linda S. Sloat of Sayre, PA, daughter; Tonya Arnold of Athens, PA, and grandchildren; Daniel (Dana Jones) Campbell of Milan, PA, Jacob Arnold of Athens, PA, Emily Arnold of Harrisburg, PA, Lucas Arnold of Athens, PA, and Jonah Arnold of Athens, PA. He is also survived by his sisters; Sandra Williams of Sayre, PA and Victoria Daniels of Athens, PA, brothers-in-laws; Eugene Denlinger of Lititz, PA, John Palumbo of Sayre, PA, Richard Black of Sayre, PA, several nieces, nephews, and his large extended family that loved him and he loved very much, which included his very good friends; Donnie and Sandy Cardone and Charles Juda.
A Time of Visitation will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225, South Main Street, Athens, PA. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 1:00pm at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
