Betty R. Mix

Betty R. Mix, 89, of Waverly, NY passed away on April 4, 2024 at Elderwood At Waverly, Waverly, NY.

She was born in Trumansburg, NY on December 4, 1934, the daughter of the late Charles and Louella (Morris) Mix.

In addition to her parents, Betty is predeceased by her brothers William Mix and Jack Mix.

Betty is survived by many friends and extended family members.

Betty was a custodian for Waverly High School where she enjoyed working for many years until her retirement. Betty took care of her mother Louella through dementia and physical illness for many years. She loved cats and provided food for all the neighborhood felines. Betty liked flowers and house plants and always had them in her apartment. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and later Waverly Baptist Church.  She helped a lot of people by sharing her story and experiences. Service was a big part of her sobriety and when she took a commitment, she always kept it by riding her bike or taking a taxi. She really liked getting together with friends and going to church dinners.  She had a real sweet tooth and would bring cakes to most functions.  Betty was always a bit glamorous with her lipstick and eye color and she had her own sense of makeup and style. In her younger years she wore miniskirts and high heels to her job in New York City. Her faith and her sobriety were her priorities. Living her program of recovery for 42 years. She was a loyal and loving friend and was generous even with her limited resources. Buying her friends gifts for all occasions. And she never forgot to send greeting cards.   She had many friends who visited regularly especially when it was difficult for her to go out and once she was admitted to Elderwood. She will be missed by many.  

Family and Friends may call on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 from 10 am to 11 am at the Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 S. Main Street, Athens, PA, where a Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am with the Rev. Stephen Reynolds officiating.   

Burial will be at Tioga Point Cemetery following the services.
