Betty J. Burns
It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Jane Burns announces her passing from this life. Betty passed very peacefully on Friday June 30, 2023, at the age of 99 and was surrounded by unconditional love.
She was born on January 31st, 1924, to parents John and Fanny Soper. She graduated from Athens High School and was employed in the Ingersoll Rand Office.
On August 13th 1945, she married William E. Burns of Athens, PA at St. John’s Catholic Church. He had just returned from a Navy tour, and they spent their honeymoon in New York City celebrating the end of World War II.
She was a member of the Milan Methodist Church, the Ingersoll Rand Randettes, the 4-H Club, and had many other interests. She and her husband Bill ran a roadside family business selling sweet corn, pumpkins, and gourds for many years. After retirement she spent 30 winters in Edgewater, Florida.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, William E. Burns; granddaughter: Heather L. Schmidt; her parents; brothers: Joseph and Charles Moody; sisters-in-law: Patricia Haggerty, Joyce Burns, Joyce Patterson Burns, Georgia Burns, Lois Moody; brothers-in-law: Robert Davis, Robert, John, James, Paul, and Tom (Hennessy) Burns.
She is survived by daughters: Barbara (Rich) Schmidt and Judy Burns, grandchildren Garrett (Erica) Schmidt, Ashley (Matt) Bash, and Karrie (Greg) Paul, great-grandchildren, Alexandria Schmidt, Kendra and Karlee Bartlow, Memphis and Easton Paul, Elsie and Olive Bash, sister Mary Davis, brother Jack (Carol) Soper, sisters-in-law Alberta Burns, sister MaryLou Burns, brother-in-law Glenn Haggerty, and many special nieces, nephews, and friends.
