August “Augie” C. Gallagher, 85, of Waverly, NY, passed away at home with his family by his side, on Sunday, February 11, 2024.
He was born on May 3, 1938, in Sayre, PA, the son of the late Michael and Margaret Cannavino.
Augie attended Sayre High School. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy. In addition to his regular job, Augie enjoyed working outside painting houses and doing landscaping on the side.
He was a member of the Waverly Moose Lodge, Sayre Sons of Italy Roma Madre Lodge 1342, and was a social member of the J.E. Wheelock Hose Company in Sayre.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his great grandson Anthony Gallagher, daughter-in-law Debra Gallagher, sister Colleen Nauss, and brother Louis Cannavino.
August is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years Jacqueline P. DeSisti Gallagher, sons and daughters-in-law Mark and Kelly Gallagher and August John and Bonnie Gallagher, son Christopher Paul Gallagher, daughters Gail Soltis and Michele Gallagher, 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Kenneth (Mary Ann) Cross, Raymond Gallagher, Nancy Frock, Michael (Karen) Cannavino, and Jeffrey Cannavino, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Patricia (Tom) Johnson, sister-in-law Leona DeSisti, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Time of Visitation will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024 from 6pm-8pm at the Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 11am at Lowery-Urban Funeral Home with Deacon Michael Donovan officiating.
Burial will follow in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
