Arlene Pickering Lamie Obituary

Arlene L. Pickering Lamie, 95, of Sayre, PA, was called home by her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Sayre Health Care Center.

She was born August 5, 1930, in Hershey, PA, the daughter of the late James D. and Anna R. (Steck) O’Neal.

Arlene was a graduate of Hershey High School, Hershey, PA, and Indiana State University. In Indiana, PA, where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Business Education. She was a Business Teacher at Athens High School, where she touched many students’ life, impacting their future. Arlene retired in 1985, after 26 years of dedicated service.

Arlene was married to Earl W. Pickering for 30 years until his passing in 1986. In 1996, she married E. Walter Lamie, Sr., and moved to Jacksonville, FL. While living in Jacksonville, FL, she was an active member of the Salvation Army Jacksonville Citadel. After Walter’s death, she returned to the Valley area in 2008. Since that time, she has attended and was very active in the Church of God in Sayre.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her 1st husband, Earl W. Pickering; 2nd husband, Ernest W. Lamie, Sr.; her daughter, Janice Burbank; sister, Dorothy Smith; brothers, James, Robert, William, Louis, Paul, and Richard O’Neal; and step-sons, Ronald and E. Walter Lamie, Jr.

Arlene is survived by several nieces, nephews, her many dear friends in the Valley area and the Church of God, Sayre, and many students who respected and thought highly of their teacher.

A private graveside service will be held at Tioga Point Cemetery where Arlene and her daughter, Janice will be buried together. Arrangements are being handled by Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. Athens, PA.
