Anna Marie (Clift) Prough
Anna Marie (Clift) Prough, of Ulster, PA, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026. She was the oldest of 13 children, born on July 17, 1945, to Carl Raymond Clift and Katherine Anderson Clift. She was raised on a farm in Dillsboro, Indiana, where she developed the strong values and work ethic that would guide her throughout her life.
Anna was a beautiful young woman, both inside and out. During her senior year of high school, she was crowned Yearbook Queen, a reflection of her kindness, warmth, and the way she made others feel seen and valued. It was during this time that she caught the eye of a young soldier serving in the United States Army, stationed at the Nike Missile Base in Anna’s hometown. From that moment on, a love story began that would shape the rest of her life. Anna and Buck were married on July 27, 1963, and shared 63 wonderful years together, building a lifetime of love, memories, and family.
Anna was a devoted wife, mother, nanny, sister, and aunt. She had a generous heart and a quiet strength that carried her through life’s joys and challenges. She found happiness in caring for her family and took great pride in the life she built with those she loved. Her grandchildren especially cherished her as their nanny, always ready with love, encouragement, and gentle guidance.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lewis B. “Buck” Prough Sr. (March 24, 2026); her son, Edward Alan Prough; her granddaughter, Katelyn Rowe; her parents, Carl Raymond Clift and Katherine Anderson Clift; and her siblings, Harold, James, Joseph, Paul, and Mary Clift Sibley.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony “Tony” and Mary Prough of Ulster, PA; Lewis Prough Jr. and Lynda Prough of Ulster, PA; and Douglas and Shannon Prough of Athens, PA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Thomas John Forbes, Aleisha Forbes Umber, Tom Peterson, Andrea Prough Sanchez, Scott Prough, Cortney Prough Braunbeck, Sara Prough, Korey Rowe, Trevor Prough, Zackary Prough, Ellie Prough Saxon, and Ember Prough; as well as many great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by her siblings: Florence Smith, Mona Thompson, Margie Wilson, Beedee Goins, Thelma Wingate, Sunday Wright, and Christopher Clift; along with several cherished nieces and nephews.
Anna will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, and the love she gave so freely. She was always by her husband’s side, often with a fresh cup of coffee in hand, assisting him with any project he was working on. He would often say, “There’s not enough hours in the day,” to which Anna would reply with a smile, “Well, duh!” Whenever you visited them at their home, “On the Hill,” you were greeted by Anna’s beautiful warm smile, and when you left, she would stand in the window, waving until you were out of sight. Her legacy of love, humor, and warmth will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A Time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026 from 11am – 1pm at the Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA.
Burial will follow in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
