Vincent "Vinnie" J. Miccio

Vincent James (Vinnie) Miccio, 93, of Gillett, PA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends on Thursday, May 21, 2020.
A Private Memorial Celebration will be held at a later date with family and close friends. Vinnie was born at his childhood home in Queens to Anthony Valentine Miccio and Louise (Lulu) Philomena Miccio (Lutz) on January 21st, 1927.
Vinnie enlisted in the United States Navy to proudly defend his Country in World War II. He returned home after the war to his family and friends, beginning his employment as a Laborer in the shipyards. He quickly decided that that was not the life for him and took on an apprenticeship as a Machinist at Fairchild Republic. There he worked hard and advanced to become the Plant Manager. While at Fairchild, he led the team to build the tail for the 1st Space Shuttle. He fully retired in 1982 and moved to Gillett, PA from Long Island, NY to raise his 2 children with his wife, Sandra.
He was a devoted Jets fan through and through, and he enjoyed playing a round of Golf with his family and friends. Vinnie also enjoyed playing Backgammon, Poker, and spending time with his family and friends. He was known for busting your chops especially if he loved you (it was obvious he loved his wife), his kind heart, honesty, and honorability were immeasurable. He always had a warm smile to share with everyone no matter how bad he was feeling or how terrible his day was going. He was also very proud of his service to this great country and his role in coordinating annual reunions for his shipmates that served beside him on the USS Guam during WWII. He was a true Patriot. Vinnie is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years Sandra M. Miccio (Kovarick), son Jason A. Miccio, (cherished granddaughters Alivia and Aubrey Miccio), his little girl Heather A. Paul (Miccio) and her husband who he loved as a son Christopher J. Paul, (cherished grandsons James, Matthew, and Aric Paul), Dr. Erika A. Sachno, his great-niece whom he also loved as a daughter (cherished great-nieces Audrey and Sophia Sachno), Robert Kovarick, his brother-in-law and 4 o'clock cocktail partner and finally his very close friends Bernie Matterazzo (Mitch) and Thomas Avellina (Sgt. Kowalski).
He is preceded in death by his parents Lulu and Anthony Miccio, beloved little girl Susan Miccio, son Adam Miccio, sister Phyllis (Miccio) Armstrong, and her daughter, his beloved niece Valerie Armstrong Sachno.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the physicians who cared for him with kindness and compassion over the years, Dr. Timothy Baxter, Dr. Nadanaguru Akila, and staff at the Arnot Outpatient Medical Offices. They would also like to extend gratitude to Dr. Dayakar Reddy for his compassion during Vinnie's last hospital stay as he transitioned home to complete his journey to his forever home with his family and friends.
