Funeral Director's Prayer
Our Father, grant me the knowledge to
wisely counsel the grieving people I serve.
Grant me the skill to professionally
care for their loved ones who have died.
Grant me the sensitivity and awareness
to understand the depth of their pain and sorrow.
Grant me the strength to care without
my heart conpletely breaking so I can be of help.
And yes God, grant me a sense of humor,
so at the appropriate time and in a sensitive way,
I can give these mourners a moment's rest.
About Us
Lowery Funeral Home is a 3rd generation family owned and operated business, founded (61 years ago) in 1947 by Jay E. Lowery. Since then the business has gone through many transitions, doubling in size since 1991 with the purchase and merger with Jenkins Funeral Home, taking place in December of 1990.
Richard & Sharon Lowery, along with Matthew Klinger, James Welles and Linda Rogers invite you to take advantage of one of our planning seminars, stressing that you need not wait until a tragedy strikes and you are paralyzed with grief to make arrangements for the future. The funeral home has three chapels, the 100 seating Chapel, which is the largest in the area, ground floor showroom, and handicap accessibility, makes Lowerys very convenient for all families. The facility can accomodate several hundred for services. We have recently updated our technology to include several LCD monitors to view presentations and services throughout the building.
The business is available 24 hours every day of the year. You will not get an answering machine or an answering service. No matter what your situations, questions, or concerns, we are here to help.
Second Generation Retires
Thursday Night (December 2005) many gathered to honor Wayne E. Lowery (2nd Generation) at the funeral home as they celebrated his retirement. Wayne's son Richard Lowery and his wife will continue as the third generation of the Funeral Home. The staff surprised Wayne by flying in his daughter Barbara Lowery Richard and her family from Ocklawaha, FL. His daughter Ellen Lowery-Miller and family surprised him as well. Wayne thought he was walking into a viewing Thursday night but was surprised to see that it was set up for his party. Wayne is retiring after 43 years of service to the Valley. Lowery Funeral Home is a 3rd generation family owned and operated business, founded (59 years ago) in 1947 by Jay E. Lowery. Since then the business has gone through many transitions, doubling in size since 1990 with the purchase and merger with Jenkins Funeral Home, taking place in December of 1990.
The guest enjoyed reminiscing with Wayne and adding their humor by sharing stories of old. One of the guests Dave Rosenbloom presented Wayne with an invoice from Jay Carpet dated from the 1972 flood, Hurricane Camille, for the roll of carpet that ended up in the Funeral home garage. We were thankful that he forgot about the couch that floated into the window. The interest far outweighed the price of the carpet.
The Lowery staff worked day and night for months renovating the funeral home in hopes of having it ready for the surprise party. Wayne also worked hard not knowing the goal was to complete it for his party. "It came down to the wire with the last of the bordering and hanging of light covers being done just hours before the party started," said Sharon Lowery. The funeral home has recently replaced their parking lot, carpet throughout the building, (Jay's Carpet), new wallpaper (Papering Ladies), and paint as well as renovations of the restrooms. They also erected an antique mirror in honor of Thomas and Betty Jenkins. The mirror was taken from the Jenkins Funeral Home when Wayne Lowery purchased the funeral home in 1990.
More than changing of the décor has taken place at the funeral home over the last two years. Richard's wife Sharon Lowery came on board full-time in November of 2004 to continue the tradition of working side by side with her husband. Rev. Richard and Rev. Sharon Lowery have added Clergy to their staff as both are ordained previously receiving Bachelors in Theology. Their goal is to continue to serve a multi-faith community.
The staff now consists of two Funeral Directors, Richard Lowery and Matthew Klinger, and Office Manager Sharon Lowery, and Funeral Associates James Welles. and Kati Baggerly. Matthew Klinger has been with the business for 20 years. James Welles has been with the business for a year and Katie is a new addtion to the staff.
"We want to assure the community, that as we explained to my father, our goal is to continue to serve this community with love and compassion. We will also continue to go the extra mile. My father taught me well as his father taught him, and I admire and appreciate both of them for what they have passed down." Richard Lowery stated. Sharon Lowery added, "We still hold the traditional motto, (the difference between ordinary and extra-ordinary is the little extra) as our family serves yours."
