Robert "Bob" Blauvelt Obituary

Robert “Bob” Blauvelt, 62, of Athens Twp., PA, on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Robert Packer Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born on February 13, 1962, in Waverly, NY, the son of the late William Donald and Marjorie Louise (Fox) Blauvelt.

Bob was a Lifetime Member of the Athens Township Volunteer Fire Company, joining in 1980, following graduation. He held many positions during his tenure including but not limited to: Asst. Chief, President, and most recently Chaplain. Over the past few years, Bob spent countless hours visiting cemeteries with his wife to be certain that flags were placed for Memorial Day for the deceased members. Throughout the years, he was instrumental in working with the Jr. Firefighting program to ensure that the fire company would continue to grow. Bob was actively involved in the fundraisers including Bingo, Ham and Turkey Parties, and the Chicken Bar-B-Ques. He was the first one to set up for the Bar-B-Ques and the last one to leave to ensure all was in order for the next one. He was dedicated, loyal and always willing to do whatever was needed for the good of the company and its success.

There is one thing that all could agree on was that Bob was good at telling a tall tale like no other and whether it was fact or not, he had all believing it was true when he was done. He was actively involved with the Athens Little League, serving as President, Head Umpire, and Coaching for many years. Bob enjoyed making his yearly salmon fishing trip in Polaski, NY with close friends Bobby Walter, Jesse Harris and many other friends.

He was a long-time employee of South Waverly McDonald’s, starting in Maintenance and worked his way up to the Assistant Manager Position and helped out at Arnold’s Truck Center. Most recently, Bob was employed with PharmaLogic of Sayre.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his grandson Aiden Blauvelt, brother Richard Blauvelt, sister Kathie Keim, and mother-in-law Marge Mayo.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years Terrie Mayo Blauvelt, daughters Rebecca Clark and Jessica (fiancé Jake Every) Blauvelt, sons Shane (Liz) Saxon, Brian (Ang) Saxon, grandchildren Dylan, Dominic, Jacob, Raelynne, Addison, McKenzie, and Madelynne. He is also survived by his siblings Donald (Val) Blauvelt, Bill (Debbie) Blauvelt, Barb Satterly, and Carole Reeser, father-in-law Earl (Jackie) Mayo, brothers-in-law Earl (Maureen) Mayo, Jr., Jim “Doc” (Cindy) Mayo, Steven Mayo, Jody (Christine Lopena) Mayo, and David (Mary) Mayo, several nieces, nephews, cousins, his fur babies Saydee, Polly, Peanut and Sasha.
